Who Was St. James of Jerusalem?
St. James was a key figure in the early Christian community, often referred to as the "brother of Jesus" and the first bishop of Jerusalem. Scripture and tradition both point to him as a steadfast leader and a man of deep prayer. His epithet "the Just" speaks to his reputation for holiness and fairness in guiding the Jerusalem church.

According to tradition, the risen Jesus appeared to James personally, transforming him into a devout leader of the Christian faith.

As bishop of Jerusalem, St. James played a crucial role in shaping the early Church. He was a respected leader during a time of great change and growth. One of his most significant contributions was his role at the Council of Jerusalem (Acts 15), where the early Christians met to resolve conflicts between Jewish traditions and the new Christian faith.
